InSynchro to go
regional with Intelligent Capital By CHARLES F. MOREIRA
Local web-based collaboration tools developer
InSynchro Malaysia Sdn Bhd stands poised to further expand into the
Asia-Pacific and the Middle East with the recent investment of an
undisclosed sum in the company by venture capitalist Intelligent
Capital Sdn Bhd.
"Let's say we acquired a large minority
share in InSynchro," Intelligent Capital principal Asgari Stephens
told In.Tech recently. "The sum will help InSynchro further expand
into the region - China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Australia, New Zealand
and the Middle East - in the immediate future," Stephens added.
"Headquartered in Plaza Mont' Kiara, Kuala Lumpur, InSynchro
also has an office in Singapore and is in the process of opening an
office in Australia. Its Web-based ProjectHub and DesignHub project
management and design collaboration tools are currently targeted at
government agencies and the telecommunications and financial
sectors. It will expand the scope next year to include the
manufacturing and large enterprise sectors.
"The sales cycle
for this type of product in these industries lasts between six and
nine months, and InSynchro will require a larger sales team to
manage these sales. Our funding will help carry it through the sales
cycle," said Asgari.
"We will also have to adapt our
products to suit different industries' needs and will thus also
require people with the relevant domain knowledge, and this is where
some of this money will also go to," said InSynchro chief executive
officer David Kochummen.
InSynchro was founded in 1999 by
David, his elder brother Mathew Kochummen, who is also chief
operating officer, and partner Chetan Ventkatesh from India, who
pooled their own funds.
David worked for NCR, Unisys,
Binariang and two small software companies before founding
InSynchro, while Mathew worked in corporate banking, resort property
development, marketing and general management of broadcast media.
In 2000, their budding venture received angel funding from a
Singapore investor and it proceeded to develop ProjectHub, which
provides project management, collaboration, communication and
information sharing through a web browser interface over corporate
LAN, WAN, intranet or Internet.
InSynchro released
ProjectHub in January last year and now has seven large customers,
including government agencies in Malaysia and Singapore, and up to
30 of their contractors.
It's key features include
enterprise calendaring, document management system, resource
management, project scheduling, work and activities breakdown
structures, workflow routing and response systems, discussion
boards, collaborative visualisation and markup online through an
AutoCAD .DWG file viewer.
ProjectHub can work on a
standalone basis or serve as a web-enabled extension to Primavera
Inc's Primavera P3e and Microsoft Corp's Microsoft Project
management tools. It stores project information online and makes it
available to project members on demand, anytime, anywhere and lets
staff in the field update project information online in real
time.
"Primavera has 70% market share of the architechtural,
engineering and construction project management market with 800
local and 45,000 worldwide installations, and ProjectHubis designed
to complement rather than compete with Primavera's and Microsoft's
products," said Mathew.
As a Microsoft certified partner,
Microsoft will help introduce InSynchro and ProjectHub to customers
worldwide, while InSynchro can tap into Primavera's distribution
network to sell ProjectHub abroad.
DesignHub, completed
three months ago, is a 2D and 3D web-native computer-aided design
system based on OpenGL standards which lets up to 20 designers
collaborate on designs of parts and finished products with common
design, modelling and visualisation tools in real time from anywhere
through a web-browser interface.
It lets them communicate
with each other in real time through interactive text and even voice
chatting (with at least 128Kbps bandwidth), and update and see
changes made to the design in real time.
It is compatible
with popular computer-aided design, engineering and manufacturing
(CAD/CAM/CAE) software, including AutoCAD, ProEngineer, Catia, etc,
thus allowing design collaboration across multiple dispersed
platforms.
"It also exports images in STL, IGES, STEP and
BREP open file formats that enable file sharing across disparate
systems," said David.
InSynchro has no DesignHub customers yet but plans to offer it as an educational tool
to local design schools and colleges.

WEB-based collaboration tools
provider InSynchro said that Australian building and
mechanical services contractor A.E. Smith & Son Pty Ltd
has selected InSynchro ProjectHub to manage its
building and facilities management projects throughout
Australia and New Zealand.
The announcement was made in conjunction
with the opening of InSynchro's regional office in Melbourne,
Australia. Financial terms were not disclosed.
ProjectHub provides project
management, collaboration, communication and information
sharing through a web browser interface over corporate local
and wide area networks, intranets or the Internet, InSynchro
said in a statement.
It can work on a standalone basis or
serve as a web-enabled extension to third-party solutions such
as Microsoft Project and Primavera P3e.
Its key features
include enterprise calendaring, document management, resource
management, project scheduling, work and www.insynchro.net
activities breakdown structures, workflow routing and
response, discussion boards and real-time collaborative
features.
"ProjectHub appealed to us
because of its inherent flexibility and ease of use that will
ensure all project participants, regardless of their level of
IT literacy, would be able to adopt quickly," said A.E. Smith
(www.aesmith.com.au)
chief executive officer Andrew Permezel.
"We were also
able to easily customise ProjectHub to meet our
unique requirements," he said in the statement released by the
Malaysian company.
